If the walls of the Willows Historic Palm Springs Inn could talk, they’d have enough stories to fill countless books on old Hollywood, the monied elite, world leaders, and the greatest thinkers of all time. Once a private, winter hideaway for a prominent Los Angeles millionaire and his wife, the Willows has been restored to its former glory. The hotel, one of the ten oldest structures in Palm Springs, has just eight guest rooms, each with a private bathroom, luxury linens, and all modern amenities including smart screen TVs and individual room climate control. The rooms feature fine antique appointments, and some have private patios and balconies with spectacular mountain and garden views. The lush gardens contain a pool and spa, fountains and secret garden pathways that feature sweeping views of the valley below– including one that still has Albert Einstein’s favorite bench. Guests are served a three-course gourmet breakfast in front of a 50-foot waterfall, and in the afternoon, wine and hors d’oeuvres are served in the lounge. Fresh fruit is available all day, and guests not wanting to leave for lunch or dinner can order room service from Le Vallauris, the French restaurant across the street. The Willows was built into the bedrock of the mountain behind it in 1924, designed by famed architect William J. Dodd, known for the Hearst Examiner Building in Los Angeles. For nearly a century, The Willows has played a major part in the history of Palm Springs, welcoming senators and scientists, royalty and rock stars, and a president and several Pulitzer Prize winners.
