American breakfasts are my favorites. I love sunny-side up eggs, grits, home fries. If a biscuit is the choice for a bread, it is instructed to “get in ma belly now.” In the hot temps, though, a big old breakfast ain’t it. Sometimes a continental breakfast is all you need or want. Something light to get you through to brunch and that mimosa you’re holding off on.
You might be surprised to learn Palm Springs has a lot of options for just that. And they all come in different shapes and sizes. Try a few on. See which one suits you.

Sometimes you just want a donut. No shame in that. This old-school donut shop has bear claws, fritters, cinnamon rolls, croissant sandwiches, and fresh coffee. French-style artisan bakery by a certified maître pâtissier. Known for baguettes, croissants, sticky buns, and tarts, and kinda famous for attitude. 611 S. Palm Canyon Dr #1, Palm Springs. Hours: Thursday-Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Parisian café offering croissants, macarons, quiche, smoked salmon croissants, espresso, and lattes. It’s adorably French and kinda romantic. 333 N Palm Canyon Dr., Palm Springs. Hours: 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
French café where people go for almond croissants, pain au chocolat, tarts, quiche, crepes, and fresh bread. They also have champagne, soooo conceivably you could take the edge off here. 129 La Plaza, Palm Springs. Hours: Typically open Friday-Sunday mornings; closed Tuesday-Thursday during summer.
Cozy French-inspired café with kouign-amann, raisin and almond croissants, and coffee drinks. I went. There are two tables inside, but why sit inside when it’s gorgeous out? Delicious coffee, and my bear claw was perfect. 102 E. Amado Rd., Suite A, Palm Springs. Hours: 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily.
